Review of the Mustek ScanExpress 2400

mustek scanner

If you’re looking for a simple, easy to use scanner that comes with the ability to scan documents up to A3 paper size then the Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB 2400 Pro Scanner is definitely worth checking out.

This scanner features true 48-bit colour scanning and a stunning 2400 x 2400 dpi resolution for clean, crisp scans. Ideal for office or home use you can run the scanner directly from your PC or Mac using the built in software that will handle faxing, OCR (optical character recognition), photocopies, PDF files and of course photo scanning. The built in USB 2.0 interface is industry standard and is much faster than it’s predecessor USB 1.0.

Please note however, if you’re computer doesn’t support USB 2.0 the scanner will fall back to 1.0 but you won’t notice any significant speed increase. Most laptops/desktops built after 2005 should support USB 2.0.

Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB 2400 Features:

  • 2400 x 2400 dpi
  • USB 2.0 Interface
  • True 48-bit Colour Scanning
  • Up to A3 Size Scanning

Customer Reviews

Wide format scanners such as the MustekScanExpress A3 are not that easy to come by these days and many customers mentioned that trying to find one has been difficult. Most of the other options out there are much more expensive units ($1000+) so people were generally happy to find the Mustek in this price range.

For the price most customers are generally quite happy with the Mustek scanner. While there are some obvious complaints that should be addressed, this scanner is certainly a good value for the money and if you don’t have a $1000+ budget for other wide format scanners than this may be the one for you.

People were generally not very impressed with the software features of this scanner. Not that it detracted from the quality of the scans but some reviewers found the software a bit ‘clunky’ and hard to get used to. Also it should be noted that finding a driver for Windows XP can be quite a problem and you may want to stay away from this scanner if you’re still running XP. Drivers for Vista and Windows 7 however are no problem and come included with the unit.

Aside from the software issues, almost every reviewer remarked how well this unit maintains clarity and provides crisp clean scans of both photos and printed documents. People were also quite impressed with the speed of this scanner as well. You can read all of the customer reviews here.

For the price the Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB 2400 Pro Scanner certainly isn’t the highest quality large format scanner on the market but it does offer some great features at a great price. If you are looking for a large format scanner that is even more affordable, then you may want to check out the Mustek ScanExpress 1200 although you will lose out on some optical resolution (1200 x 1200 dpi vs 2400 x 2400 dpi with the Mustek 2400).
